Laan-Phop-Phan
“Laan Phob Phan” is a pavilion designed as a mediating space for sharing and presenting local wisdom from the Banglamphu community, with a contemporary, sustainable design approach.
The pavilion interprets and expresses the charm of traditional Thai craftsmanship, particularly the knowledge of bai lan, or palm-leaf weaving, and the craft of phan-thom metal trays, both of which are slowly fading. These elements are embedded into the pavilion itself. The pattern design is inspired by the woven motifs of palm leaves and the color tones of traditional Thai khon performance, which are cultural identity of the Banglamphu district. The pattern is constructed from bio-plastic sheets mixed with palm leaves, perforated phan-thom plates with Thai motifs, local wind chimes, and woven pla tapian fish. Together, these materials create layers of texture, color, and lightness, as well as a contemporary reinterpretation of community wisdom.
“Laan Phob Phan” is not only a designed installation for display but also a space of encounter, a meeting point between people and the heritage of the community. It presents the past in a new, contemporary way and connects the past, present, and future of the Banglamphu neighborhood.
