STATE of THE ART: How to Make Timeless Architecture

STATE of THE ART: How to Make Timeless Architecture Sunday 1 February 2026 A49 invites you to explore one of the profession’s most essential questions: what enables a design organization to preserve its distinctive thinking and architectural excellence amid shifting eras, accelerating digital technologies, and rapidly evolving societal expectations? The answer is neither clinging to the past nor chasing trends without direction. It is to “adapt” with a clear set of principles, without abandoning the enduring values at the core. Across three talk sessions, we will revisit lessons on how design intent is passed forward and how change can be led thoughtfully, alongside the integration of new tools, methods, and technologies that strengthen the design process. Together, we will keep identity and core values in sharp focus, while asking a direct question for the road ahead: what should change, and what should never change? We will dive deeper into Timeless Design through multiple interpretations of Iconic Design, with case studies that underscore a key idea: design is not about stopping time, but about enabling true value to continue working with strength and relevance. The conversation will also expand to semi-public spaces that spark dialogue through contemporary art, reaffirming architecture’s role in weaving together people, society, and the city until it becomes part of the city’s living fabric, growing alongside Bangkok through time.
