Cultural preservation is the art of reimagining and adapting inherited traditions to align with contemporary times while making them beneficial to people in the present. It also serves as a foundation for future growth and beauty. If our culture is a treasure, it should be shared and celebrated with the world. As a nation that has welcomed other cultures for decades, we believe that we, too, should deliver an experience and cultivate relationships with the global community by promoting our own culture in a friendly and welcoming manner.
Weaving culture is a term for the process of transforming what is inherited from the past into something beneficial for the present, weaving what is present to flourish in the future, and consistently weaving the aspects of our culture to gain global recognition. Weaving culture involves a combination of traditional culture, adaptation to contemporary times, and the integration of new elements to create a living and vibrant culture.
Folk handicrafts are the culture of materials that reflects design thinking method and the selection of materials. They show their utilitarian, which are interwoven with local lifestyles, traditions, beliefs, local histories and the local wisdom. Folk handicrafts did not originate only in Thailand. They were common all over the world before the industrial revolution in the 19th century replaced handiworks with manufactures. However, there are still a lot of items which cannot be made by machines. This is why several kinds of folk handicrafts have survived until today.
Phayanchana is committed to transmitting the Thai language and culture to the global stage, ensuring that the Thai language, art, and culture do not fade away with time. It aims to deliver an experience and expand the perception of Thai beauty worldwide through the incorporation of the Thai alphabet into local craftsmanship, emphasizing utility and reflecting the unique identities of people in diverse local communities all under the âSarn Aksornâ art pieces.
Sarn Aksorn takes folk handicraft, including handwoven reed mat, âPha Khao Maâ (Thai loincloth), Thai silk ikat, Lampang rooster bowl, and Thai enamel tray, which have been part of the Thai way of life for many centuries, and redesigns them to align with the contemporary era. Each piece of work features a modern design that harmoniously integrates the Thai language, art, and culture. Phayanchanaâs distinctive combination of the alphabet makes the products not only timeless but also preserves the integrity of traditional craftsmanship.
