Siam Center presents the Next Artist 2024 exhibition, an incubation project for emerging Thai sculpture designers for the year 2024, aimed at launching them to the global market. A collaborative effort between the Department of Fine Arts, the Faculty of Architecture, Art, and Design, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, and the business operator Classic Art Collection Co., Ltd., this initiative is aimed at providing support to Thai designers in universities and taking their work to the global market under the concept of “THAI-MAGINATION,” where each designer draws inspiration from their own stories and experiences and capture them in the form contemporary bronze sculptures, in line with the current market trend. The project recognizes that high-potential characters can be developed into contemporary sculptures with an audience in the international market, and as such, they are made the core of the design and the vessel through which the young designers express their identity. The participants are allowed to utilize various media in conveying their inspiration, with no restrictions on the method and material for prototyping as long as the actual piece can be cast in bronze as per the condition of the business operator. The 35 entries submitted by the participants will be put on display to determine winners in three categories: Highest Score, Manufacturer Choices, and Popular Vote. The three winners will have their works produced and showcased at the Lifestyle Week Tokyo (Design Tokyo) in July 2024.
