The Chakri Legacy: Arts Building the Nation

The Chakri Dynasty has long bestowed its gracious patronage in supporting and advancing Thai arts and culture. In particular, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother devoted their lives’ work to the preservation and development of Thai art, enabling Thai artists and craftsmen to create works of great value that are recognized on the international stage. Professor Silpa Bhirasri, founder of Silpakorn University’s Faculty of Decorative Arts, was among the distinguished artists who received royal patronage. This support empowered him to create legendary works of art and to cultivate generations of students who have become key pillars of Thailand’s art and design community to this day. The project “Mahachakri: Art Builds the Nation” aims to honor the royal benevolence and narrate the significant cultural contributions of the Thai monarchy, which form the foundation of Thailand’s artistic heritage. It also seeks to disseminate the artistic legacy of Professor Silpa Bhirasri through an immersive multimedia performance that integrates modern technology with traditional art forms.
