PUBLIC SPACE DESIGN SOS

What does a Thai public space really look like? In Bangkok, lively gathering spots often appear not in official plazas, but at street corners, in-between spaces, and tiny pockets where people naturally pause, chat, and come together. These everyday “living corners” reveal behaviors worth decoding—and they inspire fresh ideas for designing inclusive public spaces for all ages. This year, Bangkok Design Week 2026 transforms the Unakan Road median into a people-centered urban experiment. The project creates a Green Linkage from Sam Yot MRT Station to Lan Kon Mueang, opening new pedestrian paths, expanding walkable edges, and offering zones to sit, observe, play, and rediscover the neighborhood. Featured Programs 1) Curbscape A widened corner walkway with improved crossings and traffic-calming to enhance safety and open up a beautiful sightline to the Giant Swing. 2) Sit, Swing & Count A reclaimed slip lane transform to an observation station where visitors can sit, sway, watch, and enjoy the movement of the city. 3) Urban Lounge A flexible mini-park for pausing, sitting, and playing — a relaxed place for all ages to enjoy the city. 4) Little Portal A small gateway that turns a simple pass-through into a place of discovery, inviting people to see Phra Nakhon’s old town through art, activity, and fresh perspectives.
