At the Montien, the philosophy of “Old Meets New” lies at the heart of our recent renovation. As one of the first five-star Thai hotels established in the 1970s, Montien Hotel Surawong carries deep historical significance. Its Bangkok-modern architectural style (1950s–1970s), designed by M.R. Mitrarun Kasemsri, and the iconic mural paintings by Paiboon Suwannakudt stand as testaments to Thailand’s mid-century creative spirit.
Our heritage, however, extends beyond architecture and art. The Montien is also fondly remembered as “the Chicken Rice Hotel,” home to one of Bangkok’s most beloved culinary traditions. Food has always been at the center of our story — a unifying element that reflects the district’s multicultural roots.
In response to Bangkok Design Week’s theme, “DESIGN S/O/S,” Montien Hotel Surawong embraces “FOOD CULTURES” as its central concept. Through this initiative, we aim to reintroduce our heritage with creativity — fostering dialogue, inspiring innovation, and securing a sustainable cultural future for Bangrak.
