ผ้าป่าdesignweek

Do the people of this generation still give importance to the long-standing Buddhist tradition? This experimental design exhibits the process of seeking solutions for the coexistence of the old tradition and modern society. ‘Pa Pah design week’ is an experimental design that questions the 100-year-long Buddhist traditional activity ‘Tod Pa Pah’ (an off-season offering of robe and necessities to monks). The ‘Tod Pa Pah’ tradition has been modified and changed throughout the periods. The designers' team intends to present a modernised and out-of-tradition version of the ancient tradition. Presenting it with a new perspective and experience of the tradition that still reflects the core concept of ‘giving’, tying in the modern concept of Circular Economy and Upcycling. This sparks a revisit on the purpose of religious traditions that it is not merely for personal ‘merit’ but actually includes cultural and social merit in the idea as well. Therefore, the exhibition presents a purpose and merit detachment from the tradition, bringing it closer to Generation Z, who have distanced themselves from religious tradition and created new experiences and images that suit the 2022 lifestyle.
