SALETE has capitalised on cultural assets to add value through Thai hand-woven silk, the proud heritage of Thailand.
The silks which SALETE used are from The SUPPORT Foundation and Isaan, the major producers of the over 200 years tradition of Thai silk in northeastern Thailand. The intricate patterns that convey stories and traditions are executed by specialists and have been accepted worldwide of its quality and beauty.
Due to the decline in silk consumption, a new generation of weavers have turned to industrial work to make ends meet consequently the number of skilled weavers decreased. SALETE aims to conserve Thai silk communities to be sustainable and pass on the skills and wisdom through crafts design that keep up with the global trends.
SALETE have brought about new perspectives and turned difficult to use colour into accessible daily use ones and paired them with quality leather to create lifestyle goods. The SALETE bag design is easy to use with different and trendy shapes and colours, taking traditional Thai silk into contemporary context and consumer’s hands.
