Koyori
Koyori
Koyori refers to a strong and tough rope made by twisting paper into a spiral. This symbolizes the power of unity and collaboration to create new and interesting works.
Koyori is a collaboration between the Lanna Culture and Craft Association (LCCA) and Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, established in 2019. It aims to develop local handicraft groups and link community businesses to reduce social inequality.
The Koyori Project 2024 includes Thai and Japanese consultants, designers, students from universities in Thailand and Japan, interpreters, and 30 OTOP artisans from eight Northern provinces (Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, and Nan), as well as one artisan from vulnerable groups. After a four-month product development phase, the project selected the top ten products to be displayed at Chiang Mai Design Week 2024 and Bangkok Design Week 2025, organized by the Creative Economy Agency (CEA).
The success of this project was made possible by support from the National Research Council of Thailand, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and the Creative Economy Agency. Yip In Tsoi & Co. Limited assisted in promoting the project through the television series "Koyori: The Fusion and Continuation of Handicrafts," aired on Thai PBS.
