Tikkiwallah is a modern textile studio based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We produce handmade textiles in partnership with village-based artisans and folk artists in Thailand and Laos. We also curate one-of-a-kind and vintage pieces found in markets and our partner communities. Our mission is to elevate traditional craft skills and raise the profile of indigenous fibers and natural dyes in the contemporary marketplace.
We began during the global pandemic as a band-aid project to connect artisans, market sellers, buyers, and travelers. Since then, Tikkiwallah has evolved into a thriving community of makers and artisan supporters. We work alongside a network of over 20 folk artists and craftswomen representing seven distinct ethnic communities and textile traditions.
We use only indigenous fibers such as hemp, cotton, and piet jungle vine. These fibers are grown locally and sustainably. Our collections use all-natural dyes, featuring local botanicals and ancient dye recipes. Our production is rooted in traditional tools and skills, such as hand-powered cotton cleaning spinning wheels, wooden floor looms, and backstrap looms. We are a small-batch, zero-waste studio committed to ethical and ecological production.
Our collections include textiles for bed, bath, and home decoration, such as duvet covers, blankets, bath towels, and decorative pillows. We also create a small line of clothing featuring hand-spun and handwoven cotton and hemp. Finally, we make ecological, zero-carbon 'piet' jungle vines.
Tikkiwallah was founded by Rachna Sachasinh, a Thai-Indian writer and journalist who has been working in the artisan sector for over twenty years.
