Waste for Life

Scrap Lab is a design and research center run by academic staff and students of the Faculty of Architecture at Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand. It aims to develop an innovative, ecological, and circular economy-based approach towards re-processing and re-circulating industrial solid waste, construction debris, and community waste. We bring research into real application in the business, private, and government sectors. In 2024, we upcycled ocean waste and various leftover materials such as PP, PET, Nylon, etc., to create environmentally friendly works. Our focus is on developing innovations that can solve marine waste problems and improve the quality of life for marine animals, ecosystems, and veterinarians. These innovations serve as a foundation for further use to help society and various living beings. Our projects include more than 10 creations: sleds for transporting stranded dolphins and dugongs, hammocks and blankets for dolphins, dugongs, and sea turtles, equipment for planting seagrass roots, sediment trapping structures in wetlands, bamboo joints used as structures to support the roots of newly planted mangrove trees, sand and mud work boots for marine veterinarians, first aid bags for marine veterinarians, autopsy tents, equipment for resting and moving sea turtles, and products from fishing net waste management. Expanding these innovations is crucial for achieving broader and more sustainable impacts.
