House of Upa-In x Kanya Kim
Bangkok Yai Daily
âHouse of Upa-Inâ or Baan Upa-In is a gallery renovated from the home of Kru Lawan Upa-In, a national artist in Visual Arts (Painting). He created a storage room to store his works, register art objects, and transform his studio into an exhibition room. He also invited other artists to exhibit and opened the place to everyone for free. In addition, there are workshops and art lessons from artists for those who are interested.
For Bangkok Design Week 2025, Baan Upa-In created the Bangkok Yai Daily, a pamphlet that tells the story of the Bangkok Yai community, inspired by Dr. Bradleyâs Bangkok Recorder newspaper. This pamphlet will act as a medium to bring outsiders into the community by taking them on a journey to find commemorative postcard stamps designed in collaboration with Kanya Kim, an artist interested in multiculturalism in Thai society who often incorporates modern drawing technology into her printed collages. All of this aims to inspire people to pay more attention to the diversity in the Bangkok Yai area.
In terms of the art form, the artists will highlight prominent features in each community, such as temples, sacred animals, or religious beliefs, and combine them into paintings, starting with collecting data from real areas. The design is then drafted to create a two-layered color block print, which is a different image stamp. Visitors will enjoy stamping this image on their postcards.
