Open World / Learn / Enter the NFT Arena

In the year 2021, where many industries are on the decline due to the pandemic, one industry that went against the current is NFT (Non-Fungible Token). The cryptocurrency market is comparable to an arena where people from all walks of life are gathered. Many people who are unfamiliar with NFT might have just given up on understanding it. It’s never too late to learn. Many brands these days are more than happy to support the new generation’s ideas just like SC Asset, who see the importance in everyone learning new knowledge. So, SC Asset has brought together the pros in the NFT market here to share their knowledge and experience in the growing NFT market through an online class at Bangkok Design Week 2022, “NFT 101 presented by SC Asset” with the NFT pros.      â€œNFT” the Creative Stage This NFT class happened from SC Asset vision, seeing the bustling Thai design industry during the period. The lack of supportive space in terms of knowledge and platform effectively does not showcase the Thai designer potential enough. With enough support, Thai designs are not one to be lagged in the world. Technology has rapidly advanced especially due to the popularity of cryptocurrency and NFT, creating a competitive stage for creators to unleash their skills. The share of knowledge that allows everyone to become a player in this game to create more opportunity, is SC Asset‘s mission. All Dimension of Knowledge From Various Players Because NFT is more well-known in the form of artworks, many people automatically assume the majority of the players are limited to a group of creators and art collectors. In reality, the market consists of a variety of characteristics such as investors who see the opportunity in making a profit off these digital assets and large brands or corporates who are interested in NFT for marketing and brand awareness tools. Learning about NFT from various players will help to have an all-around understanding and mark your place in the market. SC Asset has invited 90s artists turned high grossing NFT artists, Tik Shiro – Dr Manaswin Nuntasane, to share his experience as a creator, Dr Akalarp Yimwilai, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Zipmex Thailand, who see the profit potential in NFT, Eddie – Paradorn Chaiworasilp, Founder of NFT and Crypto Art Thailand, to share tricks and tips on generating sales for the investors market, with the MC, Nui – Pongsuk Hiranprueck from Beartai, as a representative for the general mass who wants to learn, he will also simplify the knowledge to be easy to follow. The City will Thrive Once the New Gen Understand Design In the view of Bangkok Design Week supporters this year, SC Asset sees designs as important tools to solve and control the issue of city growth that will cater more to the people. This can be compared to designing homes that give the inhabitants the experiences that address their needs. Therefore, Bangkok Design Week became a space for the new generation to understand design better, especially in urban city planning and public space used in everyday life. Open up the world of NFT and learn together at “NFT 101 presented by AC Asset” on Thursday 10th February 2022, 16.00-18.00 via Bangkok Design Week and SC Asset Facebook page.

Design PLANT Express Design Delivered to Your Doorstep

Design PLANT is a collective of furniture designers gathered since 2013 to drive the design industry forward. They have constantly participated in Bangkok Design Week throughout the years with a rotating host from each studio. For this current one in 2022, the studio hosting the Design PLANT Express exhibition is Dew – Doonyapol Srichan, a designer who founded PDM, furniture and home dÃĐcors brand that transforms Thai traditional woven mat into a cool modern product. Dew is here to tell us about this fun project at the festival.  The Beginning of Design PLANT Dew told us about the origin of the “Design PLANT group started with the gathering of 5-6 furniture design studios. The circle of designers in Thailand is not as large as architects or interior designers, but in terms of studios, there are a lot of small-scale studios, with only 2-5 people or 10 maximum. On the other hand, Thailand is one of the best producers of furniture and home dÃĐcor products in the world, and well-known in the industry for skilful world-class products.”    â€œAlso, the majority of Design PLANT founders are working in this industry so we thought we should do something that will develop and increase product value. By showcasing the works together is one way to create good vibes and further the market in the industry.” Dew added, “The Design PLANT name wants to present the idea of planting new seeds of the new designers. This is the key of the collective because, for the new generation of designers to grow, they need a platform to showcase their works. The group gathering supports both the business aspects and drives the design industry to grow larger. We aren’t focused on the competition nor their conditions for works submitted to us. We are open to all designers who just graduated or are still studying to showcase their works alongside the professionals.” In the past, showcases in this manner have sparked ideas and inspirations for many new designers to continuously develop their work to showcase their works alongside their seniors in the industry. The Blooming of Design Products This year there are 44 pros and the newbies are gathered under the name Design PLANT to showcase their work at Bangkok Design Week 2022. Compared to earlier showcases of Design PLANT which have about 20 participating studios, this is growth to lookout for. “People have gotten to know more about us and our works have become a highly popular exhibition because the designers brought their friends. There was one opening that around a few hundred came at once, it’s an effect from Bangkok Design Week that made designs seem more accessible to general people. Aunties can push their food carts past the work. Friends who are not designers are visiting more, unlike before when they think that design works are hard to understand. I feel like this is one of the coolest festivals in Southeast Asia.”  Behind the “Express” Concept: Not only fast in delivery but customers are satisfied The concept for the Design PLANT showcase changes every year, depending on the host. In 2021, the concept of the showcase is ‘Domestic’, conditioning the designers to utilise materials within the country to portray the limitations and challenges facing the COVID-19 situation. As for this year, the concept is still about the concern on the pandemic in different aspects.  â€œThe past 1-2 years, COVID-19 pandemic halted all fair activities which meant that people couldn’t physically see the products in real life. The chance of sales is slim if your products cannot be sold through images or videos. Some designers are creating from their passion and designers who create from the pain point in the market or consumer problems, the latter is currently in high demand. During the pandemic, it became clear that consumer needs have changed, their way of consumption has changed, and fewer people go to the malls.” â€œThis year, the host is PDM Brand. I want designers to showcase their product designs that relate to anything that has to be delivered during the pandemic. Design PLANT Express 2022 showcases products that are ready to be delivered and sold on an online platform. We are open for products in 5 categories, mother and baby products, electrical appliances, health and beauty products, home appliances, and lifestyle products. These are the categories from our research that are popular on the online marketplace platforms. The other condition is that the products should be able to fit in S, M, L size boxes.” â€œWe want the designs this year to respond to awaiting group of customers, unlike the previous showcase that focused on new products. I think the products we designed should be valuable to the market and that are functional as well as be admired. I want the designers to consider these aspects as well, not just pretty designs with no sales. With the concept of ‘Express’, I want to challenge the designers to look into how the product is presented through online platforms for the general public to understand.” For those who are interested in learning more about creative works in business and sparking new ideas, Design PLANT Express is the program for you. Check out the creative works from 44 studios at Creative Space, 5th floor, Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC), Grand Postal Building on 5-13 February 2022 at 11.00-22.00      Design PLANTWebsite : design-plant.comFacebook : facebook.com/Design-PLANT-141504359340956

Enter the “Mental-verse” to Understand the World of Depression

Anxiety during the Covid pandemic, in combination with the worsened economy and society, has caused Thai people an apparent depression. For someone in the media who has been following the social movement, Best – Wattanapume Laisuwanchai the co-founder of Eyedropper Fill, have recreated the Conne(x)t again. This time the project is about the mentality of depression patients through a documentary video installation under the name “Mental-verse.” With the Conne(x)t Klongtoey previous project, the Eyedropper Fill team had used the process of art as a tool to address education inequality issues. Presenting pieces of stories of the young people from Klongtoey with the photography, fashion, rap, and tattoo lessons in an exhibition at Bangkok Design Week 2019 and developed further into production of a documentary film “School Town King”, the 29th Suphannahongsa National Film Awards winner in Best Documentary and Best Film from Kom Chad Luek Awards in 2020.   The starting point into the Mental-verse“The initial idea for this project is because I have seen many friends around me have had depression in the past 1-2 years. Some have turned completely from happy into ill people. As a person who works in the media and design field, I started to think about what I could do. Is it possible to convey these people’s stories? This project wants to take visitors who might have friends or people around them who have depression to understand the cause of this illness better.”  â€œOne thing we discovered is that for one to have depression, it is not caused by the individual. When one finds out that someone has depression, their personality usually comes into question. After the interviews with three people from different generations who have depression, we found out that all of them are affected by their social environment. For instance, the Gen Z who grew up during the period of Thai economic collapse which caused their parents to spend less time to take care of them and have to face several family problems, or the Baby Boomer who is my mother, who grew up in a Chinese patriarch family and had to endure a bad husband. I find that these thoughts and social environment are the causes of depression.”Reflection of what’s inside the mind The main showcase of the Mental-verse exhibition is a documentary video installation that lets the subjects express their stories fully, “We gave our three subjects a camera to allow them to be a part of their stories they’re telling. So, we learn how different the perspectives of people with depression are from ours, we might see the same sky but feel different. The video installation is shown inside a room with seats and a bedroom-like atmosphere like you’re lying on the bed and watching the mental universe inside people with depression.” The process of making the documentary by letting the subjects tell their own stories in Conne(x)t occurred from the belief that telling your own stories is best, Best further explained, “We used art tools to understand the subjects. There is a certain energy about telling one’s own stories that touch the viewer. It cracks through the boundary between those who don’t understand and the owner of the stories. This way the stories told are more powerful and insightful because the preconception of the maker has been removed as we may not have fully understood them.” Working with Mental Health Specialists When asked about the difference in working process with more delicate issues than general documentaries, Best answered, “We had a pre-workshop with the subjects accompanied by an art therapist who assisted and took care of them during the process. As for the set of questions for the subjects and how the documentary is edited, the content has to be consulted by a psychiatrist specialising in depression. To avoid triggering bad experiences and upset the viewer and the subjects, we have done extensive research on the subjects to ensure that they’re under medical care and at the stage in mind that it is fine to tell their stories.Sounding Out to the Society that In Need of Healing  Aside from showing documentary video installations, Eyedropper Fill team has also prepared an activity for viewers to share their own stories to create awareness and help heal the mental wound during this hard situation. “The social environment not only affected those with depression, all the people, in general, are also affected. Last year, the pandemic issue caused people to lose their jobs which lead to the deterioration in mental health overall. Although this piece of work is telling the stories of people with depression it is not clear cut. To some degree, we are probably experiencing family issues like the subjects as well. Lastly, we found out that this piece is not only for people with depression but for everyone in the society who are also experiencing the same issue.”   â€œMental-verse” is exhibiting on the 2nd floor, River City Bangkok on 5-13 February 2022 at 11.00-22.00. Maybe trying to experience and understand the world inside the mind of people with depression will lead you to discover something hidden in your heart as well.  EYEDROPPER FILLWebsite : eyedropperfill.comFacebook : facebook.com/eyedropperfillInstagram : @eyedropperfill

Future Paradise: the future of Thai design at Rama V period printing house

Imagining the future is a way to stimulate creativity that drives designers to see new possibilities in various dimensions. Pong – Amornthep Kacchanon, President of Design & Objects Association, furniture designer and founder of AMO ARTE, furniture that used natural materials with the sustainable idea have chosen the idea of imagining the future to be the core idea of Future Paradise by Design & Objects Association at Bangkok Design Week 2022.Thai Design 10 Years in the Future“Most of the Design & Objects Association members are furniture, lamps, and home dÃĐcors designers. So, this year, we talked about the design in 10 years for each of us. How different would it be from now.” The ‘future’ in D&O view is not necessarily a showcase of advanced technology or innovation. On the contrary, in the future filled with endless production techniques of advanced objects and technologies, delicately made products by human hand that is tangible, full of emotions and stories would be more heartful and even add more value to the products than industrially produced ones.  Compete with Thai Characteristics that No one can copy â€œWhat connects each brand in the association is we view the future with the growth of craftsmanship. Through sourcing local materials, recycled materials, and eco-friendly innovations that added value to the Thai designed products. We foresee these trends growing a lot in the design industry. We want to portray the local craftsmanship stories for people to reminisce about the human element in the objects more.” Pong also explained further that it’s difficult for Thai designers to compete with European designers with advanced innovations. While they have support on research and technology we have a distinctive strength of Thai identity that shines globally as well. â€œThe strength and distinct characteristics of Thai furniture and home dÃĐcors that can compete with other countries is our creativity with local crafts, the works that present distinctive Thai identity and by blending creativity with local crafts, able to add value to it. Compared to other countries, Thailand may have a higher cost in production but the customers trust and recognize the skilled artisans of Thailand that no other country can compare with.”A Space for New Experiments“The showcase is a space for each brand to unleash their works and creativity with a chance to work on something different from their usual products. The furniture brand may create dÃĐcors or furniture that address the social distancing lifestyle of Covid, which explore the future possibilities of products that fit the changing way of life.” â€œThis time, there are around 30 studios participating in the showcase. Some of the brands are focused on natural materials such as bamboo and local woods. Some chose to use recyclables and surplus industrial materials which is a solution for future sustainability. There are a variety of works that all the studios have created exclusively for this showcase, functional furniture, decorative furniture, semi-installation lamp, outdoor furniture, public furniture, or even jewelry inspired interior dÃĐcor.” Experience Histories at the Old Printing House The showcase site of Future Paradise is an old building area on Bamrungmuang road which was Bumrung Nukulkij Printing House. Aside from being an ideal space for the furniture showcase, this place has a significant history. The showcase will also tell the stories of this printing house, “This building has a very special and intriguing history since the Rama V period. It relates to the concept of the past, present, and future of our showcase. Our works present the idea of the future and display it in the building of the past. We are trying to show that in order to go forward to the future, you should also look into the past. As the present is the outcome of the past and what we do in the present will affect the future.” Lastly, Pong remarked about the showcase, “Although these days people hardly see each other in person, partly we still want people to touch and feel the pieces that cannot be converted into digital files. It’s a craftsmanship that people can physically touch and share the experience which we feel will be nostalgic for a lot of people.” Come and physically feel the craftsmanship in the atmosphere of the past that takes you to look further into the future at Future Paradise, Bumrung Nukulkij Printing House, Bamrungmuang road on 5-13 February 2022 at 11.00-22.00     Name : Amornthep KacchanonTel. : 0868984635LINE ID : pongo28E-mail : info@amo-intergroup.comThe Design & Objects AssociationWebsite : designandobjects.comFacebook : facebook.com/TheDesignAndObjectsAssociation
