Creative & Design festival aims at sharing visions and achievements that revitalize the potentials of Bangkok
Bangkok Design Week (BKKDW) proposes the prominence of Bangkok’s design and creative works. Through these works, the festival presents ambitious ideas and new possibilities of Bangkok, now and in the future.
Celebrated in the creative districts, these creative works range from experimental pieces to the works with social and business impacts. With fun activities and memorable experiences, the festival is blended beautifully with the charm of Bangkok and attracts visitors from across the world to experience Bangkok’s latest happening.
BKKDW has long been a fixture on the Bangkok event calendar: it contributes to the growth of the creative industries and propels Bangkok to stand out as a UNESCO Creative City Network, Bangkok City of Design. The event is organized by Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization) or CEA, in collaboration with over 60 state agencies, public organizations, academia, and international institutions, as well as 2,000 designers and creative businesses, which draws an estimated number of 400,000 visitors at home and abroad.
With over 1,750,000 visitors and a total economic value of up to 1,368,000,000 baht generated in 5 times of the festival, BKKDW has been presenting new possibilities and significant potential of creators, entrepreneurs, public and private sectors, educational institutes, as well as various cooperation agencies, both domestic and international.
BKKDW is a growth engine for Thailand’s creative industries in a variety of ways, including showcasing creative businesses and designs, stimulating competitiveness, providing a local and international business networking opportunity, and generating economic momentum for downstream businesses such as marketing, printing, online media, galleries, cafes, restaurants, gifts & souvenirs, travel, hotels, and public transportation.
Established on 14 August 2018, the organization formerly known as Thailand Creative and Design Center (TCDC) is now Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization): CEA. Under the supervision of the Office of the Prime Minister, CEA has taken on a stronger role in fostering the creative economy for the sustainable economic development of Thailand.
One of CEA’s missions is to put forth the development of the creative district. By promoting the district and its conducive atmosphere to new businesses, CEA is aiming to connect the local community with each stakeholder.
With creativity as a key driver for leveling up businesses and quality of life, CEA is tasked with enhancing the prominence and competitiveness of Thai entrepreneurs and the creative network to advance Thai creative industries.

“Cities” have been transformed into “Megacities” as a result of economic development, which several obstacles in terms of overcrowding, the complexity of the resource management and city administration, social inequality, and environmental concerns, follow. When the COVID-19 pandemic occurred, cities all around the world, including Bangkok, were forced to implement human-centric city planning, which emphasizes a balance of economics, quality of life, and environment. This will result in a city of well-being that is prepared to face both external and internal difficulties.
For a better-balanced Bangkok, individuals from all sectors must join together to consider and devise a means to restore and turn Bangkok into the potential city of the new environment while meeting people’s needs as much as possible.
Bangkok Design Week 2023 (BKKDW2023) is the 6th festival, set to happen between 4 – 12 February 2023 under the theme “urban‘NICE’zation.” The festival is set to serve as the intellectual playground for creative people to demonstrate creative ideas in “making cities better,” along with inspiring and encouraging involved parties to come together to build Bangkok for the future.
urban’NICE’zation – Let’s make ‘Urban’ nice for us all.
City or habitat is one of the factors that have a major impact on urban life which cannot be overlooked. Good management or proper urban planning will make people’s life much happier. As the city develops or grows alongside the world, the increased urban population within the city has become a great challenge that everyone has to find ways to handle and balance it. Though this seems like an overwhelming challenge, we believed it’s not out of the hands of Thai creatives.
This year, Bangkok Design Week wants to invite everyone to join the discussion and imagine the possibilities for Bangkok, find out how to make the city an urban nice city. Making Bangkok a Nice city for people and business owners in various fields and occupations. Not only that, but also finding solutions, encouraging the Creative economy, creating a circular economy in Bangkok, and achieving this through the core idea of building a ‘Nice’ city for the people by building the people who are ‘Nice’ to the city. The idea inspires the cooperation between sectors of small units in the community and larger entities such as the policy maker to join hands and pave the way towards possible solutions together.
For this upcoming year, Bangkok Design Week have defined the year’s theme “urban‘NICE’zation” into 6 aspects – Environment, Mobility, Culture, Business, Community, and Diversity.
