Personalise one’s own Funeral
Suriya Funeral has been a full-service death and funeral business since 1956. This exhibhition introduces the idea of staging a funeral for yourself as a new and different kind of experience.
Participants are invited to "personalise one’s own funeral".
With death able to "arrive unexpectedly", the exhibition poses the question, “What would you like to portray at your own funeral?”
View a variety of funeral prototypes, from traditional to minimized, each reflecting the changing needs and goals that come throughout the span of a lifetime.
The setup is based on a hospital, with coffins serving as patient beds, a form of a resting place. The experience is divided into five sequences spanning childhood through marriage, retirement and the deathbed. All of it begs the audience to ask themselves what they would like to express at their final event.
