Urban (this) ability

Urban (this) ability

The changing urban context has in many ways contributed to social inequality, particularly for people with disabilities. Access to urban amenities and public transportation poses challenges for this group. Despite the dramatic development and progress of Bangkok's infrastructure due to advances in technology and transportation, accommodations for people with disabilities remains insufficient and often inadequate, preventing those with physical limitations from taking full advantage the city. The saying is that "People with disabilities are not a burden," but facilities and the urban environment can many times make disabled people a burden. Universal access would allow disabled people to be self-sufficient, freeing them from the need to wait for assistance. The pursuit of “urban’NICE’zation” should extend to providing self-sufficiency to those with physical limitations. "Urban (this) ability", a recalibrating of the term 'disability', is an attempt to create an art space that will serve as a voice for the disabled community. The showcase is a combination of photography and spatial design with the goal of reflecting an environment that enhances the quality of life for people with disabilities and reduces social inequality. The multimedia presentation is to be a guideline for Bangkok's transformation, proposing how to "Make the City Better" and inspire designs that make the city a "Good Friend" for all.
