With growing demand, shifting trends along with emerging technology, supply-side resources are being consumed more than ever. In a very competitive market, everything has to be perfect to meet market requirements, leading defective parts to get thrown away and creating more waste. In the leather goods industry, more than half of leather is labeled as unsellable material despite few imperfections or almost imperceptible scratches, becoming deadstock material that piles up little by little, taking space in the factory without adding any value. This is an opportunity to create value out of defective materials. As second-generation business owners, consumers, and designers, we want to be the voice of a new generation to create a new definition of beauty that doesn’t need to be perfect by embracing individual traits and features of different pieces of leather to create a story and become unique products under the concept of “Perfectly Defected.” As an entrepreneur, a designer, and an engineer, we come from different backgrounds with different points of view but the same passion for design and concern for the environment. We want to put forth into society a new beauty standard for the leather industry.
