SUTHEP BAND

SUTHEP BAND

SUTHEP BAND is an independent band from Chiang Mai that has self-produced more than 30 songs, 1 CD, 1 streaming album and numerous singles over the past 3 years. Their name comes from the Suthep Sub-district, where they first gathered. Defining their music as "Modern Vintage", the band blends old Thai musical styles such as luk thung, luk krung and string from the 70s-90s and takes influence from the sounds of their childhood. Having 8 members, their music spans preferences from rock, blues, jazz and latin to reggae, pop, country and more. The band was formed by old and new friends who met each other while playing music throughout Chiang Mai in their various projects, which include Stone Cold, ChaHarmo, FOXY, Aek Wildsax, MaryJames, Faad-Koa and Mr.Cats & friends. Many of them also work behind the scenes for artists in Chiang Mai, producing, recording and organizing music events. "Fon-Daow-Tok (Stardust)", released by the band in 2019, was used in the movie "Low Season : Suk-Sun-Wun-Sode", while "Oak-Dern-Tang (Departure)" from 2021 became a soundtrack in the documentary "E-ma-Kua: The Path of Fulfilling Dreams, Me, My Brother", which aired on ThaiPBS. Other notable tracks include "Kon-Gao-Tee-Jiang-Mai" featuring Lanna Cummins and Boy Imagine, produced for "Songtopia" and "wonder ok" featuring Games Junlaholaan, which was composed for an art project of Navin Productions presented at Wonderfruit 2022. "SUTHEP BAND" held its own full-scale concert in Chiang Mai in 2020, titled "Ma-ho-ra-sop Ruam-Hit-Pue-Mit-Rak-Fan-Pleng". The band's performances focus on fun and entertainment and invite audience members to join in by dancing and singing in a friendly, informal style.
