ReThink Urban Spaces Foodscape Tour & Workshop "Taste of Hua Lumphong : Into the Transporting Food Hub". February 4th (tours with about 20 participants )
ReThink Urban Spaces or RTUS for short, is a project initiated by the Goethe-Institut Thailand, the Thai Civic Education Foundation and the Child and Youth Media Institute and supported by the European Union.
The goal of one of the youth projects was to design a culinary cultural route in the Hua Lamphong neighborhood that everyone can discover on their own. It is based on a gamification design and includes restaurants and food stalls recommended by a local survey, taking into account the diversity that represents the community's identity. The group researched and planned several city walks in the Hua Lamphong neighborhood to showcase the area’s history and diversity reflected in its culinary arts.
What comes to your mind when you think about the food in Bangkok’s old town district?
Street food trendy spots, such as Yaowarat Road would undeniably become the top-of-mind choices that reflects the end of foodways from raw material origins to varieties of mouth watering menus in Bangkok. In fact, the story of food does not necessarily end on the dining table alone. Equally relevant to the dishes themselves are the ways of living that help sustain and conserve the existence of a particular Thai food culture. Such aspects of the story leaves room for fascinating yet unseen areas, waiting for many to explore!
